The law is changing – all dogs MUST be microchipped*! Wales: To be confirmed, England: April 2016

In 2013 the government announced that from 6 April 2016 all dogs in England would have to be microchipped. During the last year Daisy Street Vets has been running a campaign along with The Dogs Trust  to help our clients microchip their dogs.

As such we wish to encourage any clients who have not yet had their dog microchipped to come along to the surgery and take advantage of this service.

The new regulations were brought in by Westminster in 2013 to help tackle welfare issues and irresponsible dog ownership.

From the 6th of April 2016 dog owners will need to:

  • Have their dog microchipped and registered on one of the authorised commercial databases
  • Register the details of any new owner before they sell or give the dog away
  • Keep their contact details up-to-date on the databases

Chip My Dog

Please remember that Microchipping your dog is not only going to be a legal requirement but is also an excellent way to find your lost pet.

A tiny microchipHaving your pet microchipped is one of the best ways to increase your pet’s chances of getting home. Unlike dog tags and collars, which can fall off or be removed, microchipping is a more permanent form of identifying your dog.

A tiny microchip about the size of a grain of rice is inserted under your  dog’s loose skin, on the back of the neck. This gives the dog their own  unique code. If your dog becomes lost or stolen and is picked up by the dog  warden or turns up at a shelter or at a vet’s , the microchip can be scanned  and matched to your contact details, which are kept on a database.

Book an appointment at the practice and we will place a Microchip for a small cost of £19.99 for piece of mind or £15 if they are having another proceedure such as being neutered at the same time.

Register the chip.

This is extremely important! We will post your documents to the Database but it is still a recommendation for you to follow up with the database to make sure the chip was registered correctly and that you have received all your documentation from them.

There are several different Microchip data bases
