COMPULSORY CAT MICROCHIPPING IS COMING!

Most of you will be aware that dogs have had to be micro-chipped by law since 2016, but are you aware that your cat will also need to be micro-chipped by law next year as well?

All cats will need to be micro-chipped by law from 10th June 2024.

Did you know that 25% of cats in the UK are not micro-chipped? This means that approximately 2.8 million cats  will need to be chipped when the new regulations come into place next year.

As such we are trying to raise awareness of this new cat owner requirement, so you can be preparred for the new regulations.

Take a look at the information below to acquaint yourself with what you need to know:

The introduction of compulsory micro-chipping in England will assist our lost cats being identified and returned home as soon as possible. The new rules mean:

·        Cats must be implanted with a microchip before they reach the age of 20 weeks

·        Non micro-chipped cats over 20 weeks are also required to be micro-chipped

·        All keepers must have their cats micro-chipped by 10th June 2024 and keepers found not to have micro-chipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted or may face a fine of up to £5000.

Cat keepers must also ensure that their contact details are stored and kept up to date in a DEFRA compliant (government standard) pet micro-chipping database such as identibase.
